Redondo Union High School marching band takes state crown

The Redondo Union High School Band and Guard has another tune to add to its arsenal: a celebration song for being named California State Band Champions in Division 4A.

Their show, “Above and Beyond,” paid tribute to veterans and concluded with trumpets playing “Taps,” followed by the ensemble saluting fallen heroes. This is the first 4A state championship for the band. The 2010 marching band won the 3A division.

Band director Raymundo Vizcarra, drum majors Brandon Chun and Jade Saffery, band captain Ryan Bender, drumline captain Kyle Ealy, guard captains Mocha Ito and Emily Coan, percussion lead by Ben Contreras and Ariel Campos, brass from Wendy Sauceda and Pedro Rodriguez, woodwinds from Nicolas Sobka and guard from Erik Estrada helped to lead them to a victory.
