Welcome Mr James Cervantes! RUHS Director of Bands

Born in Riverside California, James Cervantes is a California State University Fullerton graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education, and extensive experience in teaching, coaching, and mentoring students in various music programs. Mr. Cervantes spent 6 years playing with various Cal State Fullerton programs, such as the CSUF Symphonic Band, CSUF Wind Ensemble, and CSUF Jazz Small groups,

Mr. Cervantes was a marching member of Gold Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Cervantes is actively continuing to serve within Drum Corps International on Administrative Staff with The Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps.

Mr. Cervantes has 9 years of teaching experience as a Visual Caption head, Visual Coach & Music Coach at Canyon Springs High School, Alta Loma High School, Chino Hills High School and San Marino High School. This further strengthened his ability to assess student progress, implement improvement plans, and coordinate performances. Mr. Cervantes has a proven track record of guiding students through practices, skill-building sessions, and community performances to showcase their musical achievements.

As the band director at Pioneer High School for the 2024-2026 academic years, Mr.Cervantes successfully led the program to success in all the pageantry arts such as Marching Band, Indoor Percussion, Indoor Colorguard, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band.
